Rider Profile: Travis Pastrana
Nitro: How excited are you to bring Nitro Circus Live to the United States for the first time? Nitro circus started in the USA and after years of perfecting the show all over the world, we couldn't be more excited to bring it home.
Travis: For the crew, Touring the world has been a lot of fun and the energy of performing with the best action sports athletes in the world is something that spreads like wild fire through the audience. I can't wait for all of our friends and family here in the states to get the opportunity to experience it!
Nitro: What's it like behind the scenes on a Nitro tour?
Travis: The crew never stops! We stop the tour buses at every skate park and go kart track we can find and these guys are always getting into something. I feel old because i think i'm the only one who seems to sleep more than 3 hours a night on tour.
Nitro: Who is the funniest person on tour? And why?
Travis: Street bike tommy! Hands down the funniest guy. Probably because his job is to talk during the show. It's his job to be funny and he sees everyone's mistakes so he is always laughing for hours after the show is over
Nitro: What has been the most embarrassing moment you've had on tour?
Travis: Personally, it's when I dislocated my shouder on a simple trick in the intro's and fell off the bike! But the worst was when Cam Sinclair pulled two people out of the stands and then crashed with them on his bike! My suggestion is NEVER volunteer! haha.
Nitro: Favourite American celebrity?
Travis: There are a lot of Taylor Swift fans on tour. It seems that everytime I walk into the locker room, one of the bmx or scooter kids is singing one of her songs! For me, most of the people I look up to are athletes and most of those athletes are touring with us!
Nitro: What would you do with your last $10?
Travis: Buy ice cream
Nitro: If you had a chance to change one body part, what would it be? And why?
Travis: My balls. They tend to be bigger than my ability level!

Contraption of the Week - "The Big Wheel"
How is it built? The trike frame is built from 100% raw aluminum tubing bent and welded together, the 1-1/8 head tube is specially machined and built so standard bmx parts perfectly fit. We run a 16 inch fork with a 1-1/8 steer tube and the rear axle is made from the strongest material i can find to withstand the immense torture put on these things night after night. But we still do run hollow plastic rear wheels and the original pink and blue seats found on the original bigwheels. There's a lot more time and effort put into them then most people think! By Casey Cook, Tour Mechanic
Where did the idea come from? From the original Nitro Circus MTV series, of course! It started off as a classic challenge between Travis Pastrana & Andy Bell - seeing who could hit the dirt gap on a kids' big wheel. Until of course, Travis had to step it up and backflip off the Mega Ramp. That inspired us, and ever since the first live shows in 2010, we have been pushing the limits of what can be done on a big wheel.
Who rides it? Dusty Wygle is the world's premiere big wheel rider, pioneering a whole heap of the biggest tricks. Guys like Gavin Godfrey and Special Greg are hot on his tail, though.
Biggest Tricks: Some of the craziest tricks thrown down on a big wheel include the lazyboy backflip, the cliffhanger backflip, and the double tailwhip. These are tricks that are hard enough to throw down on a dirtbike or a BMX, let alone a children's big wheel! |
